Comments: One of the worst campgrounds we've ever been to. Majority of sites are seasonal, and the campers that are one those sites are poorly maintained--very seedy. There were not many sites with full hookups. Bathrooms were filthy and poorly lit. The roads are horrible with trees in the middle of them. I requested a lakefront site and was told that we would get one. Well, we didn't. Those were all seasonal sites which they didn't mention. They also charged my credit card for the full stay right after I made the reservation and was informed that they didn't give refunds. I guess it's because when you get there and take a look, you wouldn't want to stay there.

Comments: My husband and I traveled to mich to visit relatives and go to the Soaring casino in Mt. Pleasant Mich.we stayed at this campground and were so impressed that I just had to tell someone, there is a nice lake and my husband caught a 42 inch northern pike, impressive even for an Alaska fisherman, nice swimming beach , lots of activity, and the seasonal campers there treat you so nice and welcomed us as if we were old friends, it's clean, shaded, and dry the lake is pristine.

Comments: What a waste of a weekend, we thought we would enjoy our last weekend of the summer and we decided to go camping, well maybe we should have researched it more before we set out. About 5 years ago we went to a park in Plattsburgh that we didn't think many people knew about that's why we liked it but what we found was a disgrace. Upon arriving I should have known what was going to happen next. We set up camp and the owner just would'nt stop driving around in her golfcart. When we went to settle in for supper she came a knocking asking for money for her weekend raffle, we were only there for 2 nights and I didn't feel we should have to put any more money out on this campground ( the expense of the lot was more than enough) She got all offensive saying that to be on this campground we would have to participate in all the weekend activities. My husband tried to explain to her that we just wanted to be left alone but that was not good enough for her , so we went to sign up for her bingo night, there was nobody there , 3 people who were seasonnal campers . The grounds are not kept and the flies were out of this world. After our experience with this campground we will never, ever return there. It was once a beautiful park and now it is just empty and ghostly.

Comments: Campground is smaller but Super clean and nice- the bathrooms are WONDERFUL, they are always clean and are done in really nice wood. Laundry - pop machines and snacks - store - playground - horseshoe pits - volleyball - basketball. Cabins are nice and new with lots of beds. They have some stuff for kids and adults, but good to relax and go to river to canoe and fish. Downside could use a pool and more campsites. But friendly and clean... best in area, not best ever stayed at in state.

Comments: Most of the sites are located on a hill not a could place for hiking around the site, it does have a heated pool which looks okay and is maintained but they close it at 5 pm, it has a mini-golf course not very well maintained
(9 holes), it chrages for vistors $7 dollars for adults and $4 dollars for childern if they stay over half an hour, I would not recommend this campground for anyone with a handicap, Best left to the young and diehard race face since it is close to the Pocono Raceway, Bathhouse is at the bottom of the hill no frills. Roads are small and hve large gravel seems to wash out at times with rains.

Comments: Yuck! Not at all what we were expecting. My family went to Big Timber to camp and enjoy the waterslides. The campsites were SMALL and the staff rude. To top it off none of us slept for a week because the campgrounds are located by traintracks and the interstate. We listened to motor cycles and trains at all hours. The pool was so small and over clorinated, we had freinds drive 2 hours to visit for a couple hours but were told they would have to leave immediately. My daughter got hit in the mouth busting her lip open during a "friendly" basketball game with other campers. 40 teens were jumping on the giant pillow making it unsafe for anyone else to try to get on it. (They had a bus load of 75 teens come in)
We will never stay there again!! THE HALL'S IN LEWISTOWN MONTANA!!

Comments: We camp at Shady Oaks with our friends from the providence of Quebec. We found it to be a clean place. The owners have been very nice to us so we don't have any camplaints. We liked the fact that it is very quiet even with kids around. We all shop in Plattsburgh on occasion and we don't camp any where else. We find it hard to believe the other bad reviews seeing as we camp there often. The last time we camped there was 22/07/06. Canadian Camper.

It was very clean and the owners we found to be pleasent and helpfull. Even though there were other children in the campground it was quiet. Our children loved their mascot, Champ and Bonnie Bear. What a great idea. We camped in 5th wheels in June 2006.

Comments: I had planned on staying a couple of nights at Ashville to visit the Biltmore Estate. After doing a little research on the internet I decided the Bear Creek Campground appeared to be a perfect place to stay. Their rates on the internet were $36.00 per night for 30 amp and $5.00 for each additional child over age 13. We arrived a little late in the evening and was the last to get checked in. Upon figureing the total for two nights the clerk said my total would be $96.00. I informed her that this was a little to much since the web site said $36 per night ( 2 nights = $72) and I have 2 Childen over 13 ($5 X 2 =$10)+ tax does not add up to $92? She said that I had to also pay $5 each extra for myself and my wife bringing the total to $20 extra dollars. It was to late to argue so I paid got my camp site and proceeded to find it and set up. Already annoyed at being overcharged I almost blew a gasket when I found my campsite, a parking spot for 1 vehicle with a 6 foot bank on the awning side, that prohibited its use, and a storage building 10' behind it for the campgrouds lawn equipment. Without a sign I never would have belived it was a campsite. Total size could not have been more than 10' X 30'. There was also and apartment building in the campground directly in front of me. The only people that had it worse were the Tent camper that had to camp in the owners yard. I can not recommend this campground to anyone, expecially if your going to Ashville to enjoy the mountains and the great outdoors since this campground is about the maximum amount of campers in the smallest amount of space.

Comments: I am one of the owner of Shady Oaks RV Park/Campground located in Plattsburgh, NY. We were left with quite a mess to clean up after the previous owners sold the park to us. We had to follow through on acouple of evictions that were handed to us by the old owners. We also didn't renew other campsite agreement of seasonal campers that use to party with them. These campers would party till all hours of the night disturbing the tranquility of the park for other campers to enjoy. We needed to restore the campground back to what the original owners, Jane & Lloyd Ryan, had intended it to be, a quiet family oriented RV Park. Once again it is just that. Come talk to our seasonal campers for yourselves. We certainly did not buy a business to run it into the ground and we are sure that campers wouldn't believe such nonesenses. Sincerely & Respectfully, Louise Beaudet, Owner of Shady Oaks.

Campground: Tom's Cove Chincoteague, VA

Comments: This is a nice campground on Chincoteague Island, VA. They have a "rec room" with a few pool tables, the games were mostly out of order but ok otherwise. There is an outdoor inground pool and a boat launch on the campground. There are 3 docks, we had no luck fishing or crabbing off the docks but it was nice to watch the sunrise/set. Also the docks close at 11pm which cuts out some night time maritime activities. There are waterfront sites which I did try to reserve over a month in advance and was reassured that they would be available which were not. In fact one of the clerks basically told me that I was lying about reserving waterfront sites, even though I had a copy of the reservation with me. Around the area there are a few mini-golf courses and a "Mr. Whippy" ice cream place which was pretty good =) Also there is Assateague State Park where the "Wild Ponies" roam. In the area there are two other notable campsites on the island which we visited. The first was Inlet Cove which has a great view of the ocean/bay but the sites are disgusting, in fact many of the locals refer to it as Little Saigon. Also there is Maddox Family Campground which is o.k. They have no water access and their sites are smaller than Tom's Cove. The only plus that I saw with Maddox is that it's right on Maddox Blvd, which is the main road on the Island.

Comments: Brush up on your french because thats all the girls at the front desk speak. Definitely a language barrier. Check your confirmation because what you think you reserved isn't neccessarily what you get. Had a problem with our lot, not what we asked for. Manager said it was our fault we should have looked at the confirmation. We asked for a site for a tent with electricity. Confirmation said tent site not rustic site. We were blamed for the error and it ened up costing us more money because we lost the 7 day discount on getting the correct lot. Check their rules because you may be singled out to have to follow them. Not all rules apply to every camper even though they should. Besides the problem with management the campground was nice.

Campground: Hocking Hills State Park Logan, OH 43138
Campground Rating: 3
Comments: We spent the weekend at the Old Man's Cave Campground in Hocking Hills State Park.
The campsites are too crowded and close together. Most are small -- just a patch of mowed grass squeezed between the tree line and the road. Some are even too small to pitch a tent. Many have no shade. Ours had full sun all day, even though the website description said afternoon sun. Plus ours was situated on a slope on the corner of the main road, between the Dumpster and the dump station, next to the amphitheater where they show Saturday night movies. I didn't feel like I was getting back to nature. I felt more like I was in some kind of crowded refugee camp. If you go, try to talk to someone who's been there who can tell you which sites are better than others.
The 3 "GetAway Rental" cabins are tiny sheds barely big enough for sleeping 2 adults and 2 small kids. They have wooden shelves for you to sleep on -- bring a pad for under your sleeping bag. But they are on shady sites and come with a small covered porch and a propane stove.
The showers were disgusting. But if you've got your own in your RV, that's not a problem.
And the park has a big problem with racoons. Make sure to leave NOTHING edible lying around outside your car or camper. They can open coolers and scratch through tents. They even ate the nightcrawlers our friends had left out with their fishing tackle!
Still, if you get a decent camp site, there are plenty of fun things to do. From our site, it was only a short walk to the showers, pool, water fountain, hiking trail, and fishing lake.
The swimming pool is really nice, with lifeguards, 2 water slides and a separate kiddy pool. There's a decent looking fishing lake a short walk from the pool. There are several miles of wooded hiking trails, including several water falls and Old Man's Cave -- a beautiful rock formation. There were several guided nature programs scheduled the weekend we were there, but we didn't get to try any. There are a couple of playgrounds, but we didn't see them. They show a family movie on Saturday nights. There's a small store at the park office that sells reasonably priced ice, wood, necessities and souvenirs. We didn't find or try the dining lodge.

Comments: DO NOT stay at this campground unless you like caretakers who act as Nazi's. They have 5 MPH spend limit. On one occassion, we were going 10 mph and were stopped. When we got home we received a letter telling us not to return due to us ignoring the speed limit multiple times. This was untrue. I guess the caretakers can't do math. The people running the place are rude, arrogant, and dishonest. The field next to the campground is now a paintball tournament site. Its ugly to look at and noisy. Sites were not mowed. The bathrooms were dirty. The pool is old and small. Picnic tables are old and not maintained. The sites are close together. Its near a busy road. AND MOST of ALL THE PEOPLE WERE NOT FRIENDLY AND RUDE!!!!!!!! We will never return to Iowa camping based on this experience.

If these two idiots would have kept their big fats mouths shut and been a little more pleasent to people, they wouldn't be in this mess. There was no reason to kick anyone out of there...but being the IDIOTS that they are just created the domino effect....You can't be blaming people for something they didn't do...and knowing very well that the whole campground will not believe you when your accusing and pointing the finger at someone. This was a very very family oriented campground where people had known each other for many years and you just don't come into the place thinking your the king...when we all now can see that the JOKE..ER was on you!!!! Your DYING...your camp is a shambles...you two are a shamble... I hope you have learned your lesson...( I doubt that) WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND....AND NOW IT'S YOUR TURN!!!

Comments: I had to see for myself so I went by "Shady Oaks", I have lived in Plattsburgh for over 22 years now and I couldn't believe what I saw, the park is a disaster area, it looks like they were setting off bombs or something, there is no more grass left is looks like hay, the man who confronted me at the famous gate eveyone is talking about was rude and vulgar, he talked about all the college girls that camp there like they were his star attractions, I then told him I wasn't interested in little girls and he said that I must be blind...When I ask where the lady was he said there was no lady , it was him and just him who lives on the campsite he also said that he couldn't leave his campgrounds cause of threats from passed seasonnal campers. He looks as bad as his campgrounds. I would rate this park at a 1, and 1 being very, very bad. And dirty. I do not recommend this camp to anyone it is empty and filthy and the only people I saw were pulling out they're campers and from what I could see they had been there for a long time. Good luck to those who are stuck there. Oh and when I asked about the pool he said his campers failed to close it properly last September so they ruined it and he was now going to court to sue for the damages they caused........

Comments: This was the absolute best campground I have been to! Awesome mini golf, movies outside at night. 4 huge pools. DJ and in pool dancing to tunes every night. Nice camp store. Restaurant. Easy checkin. Big campground with sites all sandy and nice. Great place to ride a bike around. Paved Bike trails right out the front of the campground led right to the Virginia Marine aquarium, water park, (avoid dumpy looking go kart park next to water park) and if you went far enough right to the beach. Campground has free 150 space parking lot one block back of the beach. Take advantage of this! It was the best place to park in town. After 10 am no parking is to be had in the beach area. There is no parking on the town streets without a permit either. Parking garages are small and fill up fast. People were running after us asking for our campground tag to get into the parking log. At busy times there actually is an attendant who shoos away offenders who do not have the campground hang tag. I would stay there again and again. It was so convenient to everything. We even drove a short distance to hop onto a major highway that led right into Norfolk and the naval museum. A kmart and many restaurants are available north or south on the main road it is located on. Lots of huge motorhomes fit easily here. Big tenting area in the woods. Bike rentals, decent kids playground. Very nicely landscaped. Has a shuttle that comes right into the park. If my husband wasn't so out of shape I would have rode my mountain bike everywhere. When you get to the beach, you need a bike to ride to the public bathrooms. You can't get into the hotels without a room key from the beach. A very family friendly beach until after dinner, then the gothic freaks come out. Avoid the street right behind the beach after dinner. SCARY people. I did see pickpockets stealing wallets from people's beach towels too, so keep your valuables locked up in your car or back at your campsite.

Campground: Davidson River Campground Brevard, NC
Campground Rating: 1
Comments: I live Asheville, NC and went to visit Davidson River Campground, Pisgah NF, NC with my wife and two small children to scope it out for a possible camping location for the future when the relatives from CA visit in June. It didn’t go well at all.
Let me explain:
We drove up to the entry gate house and waited for the man in the gate house to come out. He didn’t so we drove in to check out the campsites and area to get a feel for it and see if it would fit our camping needs when our relatives show in June. Well as were driving through looking around, out of the blue some guy that works at the campsite says “Hey you come here!!!” So I’m out the car and then another white pickup truck pulls up behind our little Honda civic. Another guy gets out (looking extremely aggressive and intimidating) and says “don’t you know how to read a stop sign!?”
I say yes I do? I’m thinking to myself, why I’m being ganged up on. My wife is getting nervous, so are the kids and my dog. The guy who stepped out of the white truck says “Well you blew right though the sign at the main gate.” I told him I didn’t. We did stop, but no one came out. Also I told him we were just looking, to see if it would be a good place to camp for the future when my relatives arrive from California.
Then he tells me that I didn’t stop, and I must wait for the man at the gatehouse to come out and that I need some visitor pass to check out the sites. He is talking loud and rude at me the entire time during this exchange. I’m feeling like reality is tilting under my feet. The whole barrage I’m getting from these guys just has me floored. It doesn’t match the peaceful scenery.
Anyway, he takes my license plate down to intimidate me and mentions some kind of monetary fine. The guy looked like some maintenance dude with no authority to enforce the law. Anyway they escort us out too the main entrance gate house. We stop at the stop sign at the main entrance gate for fear of being shot or something. You never know, you know… this is the south. The guy comes out of the main entrance gate house and lectures us on how were supposed to stop. We go through explaining that we did, but he just gives us some line that we need to stay stopped until he comes out.
Well suffice to say we came away from that beautiful place feeling harassed and like shit. The dog got so nervous he puked in the car.
If you don’t mind old crotchety southern rebels then the Davidson campground is the place for you. Don’t get me wrong the whole Pisgah forest is beautiful but the NC people we dealt with that day obviously hate tourist. You see our plate reads FL on the back. We just moved to Asheville not long ago. Thankfully the people in Asheville don’t act like hillbillies, and are with the times.

Comments: My husband and I have been looking for a nice campsite in Plattsburgh to runaway to in the summer, we went to visit Shady Oaks because we have been watching the newspapaer and have noticed that a few campers have been for sale for awhile and we figured why not....We got there and there is a gate, we tried to phone in the office but we were greeted by a wierd looking man wearing clothes that were way too small for him and they were as dirty as him. He asked why we were there and we tried to explain it to him but he kept interupting us , instead of discussing the places he had for sale he went on to tell us about his seasonnal campers and the trouble they were having keeping this campgrounds alive, he told us his girlfriend was running it to the ground when we asked were she was so we could discuss a few things with her , hoping she was more sane than him , he said she was working and would probabaly be working til they get out odf the mess she put them in. He said he use to be a millionaire until she convinced him of buying a campground. He also said she never could hold onto friends. Maybe he was drunk but this is my experience in trying to purchase a trailer. I woulds like to say if you are a trailer owner and you are trying to sell your trailers from Shady Oaks R.V park in Plattsburgh, N.Y do it on your own....The place looks like a ghosttown, the grass is all burnt and it doesn't look loike it's been cleaned for a good 2 years, he also asked my husband if he was handy and that he needed help trying to put this place back together my husband is 67 years old and has been retired for the last 3 years, the nerve ofhim trying to get other people to clean up they're mess. I never met the burnt out blond and if I had I would have told her what I thought of her campground. So sad.

Comments: I remember this park back in 05 when we were there i got from the front office a list of activities as we were bored and the park was like empty.Found that very strange that a campground would be that empty during the month of July. Anyway I got the list from some little blond woman who looked run down and tired and as I was reading it I noticed that the activities were all for other places, none took place in the park. I found that to be weird. Plus what kind of person would send a family to a bar???? We have children and would never take them to a bar. I am Plattsburgh resident and yes I know that the Naked Turtle is a BAR!!! These people are crazy. What happened to the old Shady Oaks? this park is not what I remembered, it to dirty and shabby. Comments: Where do I start. Visited there in 05,dirty, rundown, like it has never been cleaned up. Owners are very crass and rude, No activities what so ever. The place looks like it has be deserted, nobody around anywhere. When we wanted to look around the owner followed us all over and then he was the one who told us where to park, we never got to chose our own space and we ended up in s very small corner near the hywy with lots of noise. After trying to set up our camper for 2 hours we decided that it just wasn't worth it to be here and we wanted to leave. As we finally got packed up and went to the front office to get our money back we were told that there were no refunds. We said that we didn't even set up the camper because you put us on a site that we didn't want. The owner said to bad it's my park and I can do what I want, if you don't like it get out!!! I could hardly believe my ears, the nerve of this drunk a----hole. did I mention that he was very drunk when we spoke to him? I do remember being there in 2002 and it was such a nice warm friendly park, but I don't remember these owners. Had to of been sold after 2002 because these 2 new people have to be the most inconciderate, rude, obnoxious people I have ever came across. I will never go back there and we will be mentioning this to the other 37 trailers that travel with us through out the year. That is one park that will not get us to go back. The worst park in Ny State. I give them a minus -100000000.

Well it was on the water but near a swamp. We were eaten alive. Thanks Dick. Ta-ga-soke in my opinion is to crowded. The good sites have all been taken and did I mention is very crowded. The sites are right next to each other with no privacy.

We drove our RV in on Memorial day. The campground was clean, very modern, our site was on the water with a huge lot. Bathrooms were very clean. Has around 100 sites and we found it on the web. This is the best campground I've stayed near oneida lake. Its new so i'm hoping it dosn't bookup to much for the comming memorial day.
I've stayed at the local campground and they were just to crowded.
If your going to camp check this place out, if you find anything better leave a message. I'm always looking for the perfect campgrounds myself.

Comments: Four camping families stayed here at Easter.
We were treated horribly. The office staff was so rude and unwelcoming. They closed up tight on Easter Sunday and left us to fend for ourselves. Nothing was available.
We were told to stay off the lake!!!
The sites were disgusting. Apparently they were doing construction on them, we had exposed wires and pipes. Piles of dirt everywhere.
My Daughter was never given her Good Sam discount. The rude employee behind the counter told her if she didn't like it she could leave. Nice treatment after traveling 4+ hours with 3 small children.
BEWARE. We will never go there again.

Comments: Well where do I begin, This Campground was Great!! My Family had the Best time. We went for our first time last summer and we are going back this year. It is an all season, "Family Campsite" that has so much to offer the kids and the "bigger kids"...lol...There are 2 playgrounds & a large Rec Hall, they have lots of games and activites that are different & keep the kids busy, they offer A Hay Ride that brings the children on a flashlight candy hunt(which is a blast), pets are allowed for a reasonable fee, Hot Showers, Swimming in the inground pool, Hiking along the really beautiful stream, a Frog Pond, Sites with or without 3 Way Hookups, camp in an RV or a Tent. As mentioned it's not the biggest place but it offers a great time for you and your family. I am glad we chose The Pines and will continue to enjoy what a wonderful time they have to offer.

Since moving to Va in the nineties, i have been taking my family there every year for the biest summer vacation. This campground has all the amenities of a resort and is very family friendly. With a guard at the entrance, It is the safest place for kids to have fun and some freedon. They have been updating this campgound every few years, even now has wireless internet. (For those who can't live without it)I have even gotten my firends to spend their summers here. I would recoomend this campground to anyone at anytime.Have the time of your life!!!!!!

Comments: The sites have privacy plantings. Many are very small for larger RVs, especially those that overlook the bay. They want to squeeze in as many as possible. Bathrooms were filthy. Reserved space in May after 2 or 3 phone calls about handicapped assess and they confirmed, including price, via phone and e.mail. When we arrived in late August, their rates had increased considerably and they would not honor the rates at the time of reserving even though they had discussed the rates with me. They even commented at check in that we were being charged the highest rate for a non-premium spot. I consider their practices dishonorable. Complaints to KOA Corporate did nothing. Don't go there. They will cheat you also.

Comments: We happened upon this campground after I picked up a guide to Private Campgrounds in NY.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed it. For $34 a night we had a fully serviced site(cable included. The site was an avg size. We had no problems getting our 27ft travel trailer with a slideout into the space. The site was level, just enough trees for privacy, lots of grass on the site. In fact the only place missing grass was our concrete pad. With small children running in and out this sure helped in cleanliness.
If you are lucky enough you can get a beachfront site for $39.
This campground has a fairly well stocked little store, a rec hall for all ages, as well as an adult rec hall, and great pizza(under $10 for a large pepperoni) in the little snack bar that has some seats.
My only complaint would be the shoers, they cost $.25 to use.

Comments: This place is a dump. Think; wrong-side-of-town, run-down neighborhood meets city junk yard (broken windows on camp store/office building, old broken picnic tables, and rusted metal scraps). Do not be mislead by their Internet site. A few short steps from your campsite is a small lake (not the Delaware River - where???). When staff were asked at the store where the hiking trails were (as stated on their paper they gave out with their map) the women replied "trails?" in bewildered voices. Then the man behind the counter(owner?) spoke up and directed us to walk up the roadway where the tent sites were located. 'Where we would come to an old busted down trailer....... (as if the one I stayed in wasn't) at the mountain top'. My friend and I pondered what spectacular pictures we could take of our children "look thats us during Labor day weekend, don't the kids look precious sitting next to the busted trailer? I'm framing this one....." The trailer I stayed in (92) was very old and poorly maintained with missing knobs and thick black grease caked on the stove and the laminated top of the table was broken off. The bottom portion of the screen door was ripped open as well as a window screen in the kitchen area. The screen for the 2nd bedroom (think 2nd bedroom for a trailer back in the 70's - the size of a closet) window could not be opened because of the screen being bent and not fitted in the opening properly. So forget about getting some fresh air. Cleanliness was a factor as well, for not only this trailer, but the entire campground. The bed mattress was flat and seemed to be as old as the trailer (1970's). I could have slept on the ground and felt the same way every morning. 4 butter knifes, 1 spatula, 3 tea spoons and 3 forks, a badly scratched up frying pan, 3 flat plates, 3 bowls, and 3 mugs I would never put my lips to outfitted the kitchen and not much else then that. However, it did have a coffee pot and toaster and a full small trailer type refrigerator. Also, the bathtub seemed fairly new. The pool area was dirty and looked as if the few (4) scattered mismatched chairs were left there from previous campers. The campground bathroom did not look appealing enough for me to venture from the door. The playground, if you could call it that, needed mowing and weed whacking. Swings were located across the way from the sliding board behind the camp store building. The swings were near a propane tank and too close for my comfort. A tall child swinging far enough could kick it. Their brochure is very misleading. They claim to rent "Luxurious Park model trailers" and maybe 25 years ago they were luxurious park model trailers but they certainly are not that today. If you cannot avoid camping here and you rent their trailer please bring some disinfectant, a battery operated vacuum, and some floor cleaner (I wish I brought mine) and be ready to use some elbow grease to clean . There are better places to stay........... this is not one of them.

Comments: This was the WORST camping trip we ever had!!! The owners of the campground came to our site twice accusing us of cutting down trees and peeling bark from trees (we did NOT cut any trees or peel any bark), although it looked like someone who had previously used that site had peeled bark from trees nearby. They used foul language in front of our children, threatened us, and made our children afraid to be at this campground. It was as if they were trying to make us scared enough to pack up and leave (which we almost did). Also, there was no soap in the bathroom, although there were dispensers. Some of the showers, which are coin operated and cost extra, were out of order. Other campers near us were being loud and breaking some campground rules, but they were not spoken to by the owners at all!! There were dead rotting fish on a stringer in the boat dock area, making that area smelly and unpleasant. The ashes had not been cleaned from our fire pit in a long time, so it was almost full (I'm sure that if it had overflowed, the owners would have run right over to curse in front of our kids again!). Not a relaxing vacation at all; in fact, rather scary. We have camped here years ago and not had any problems with this place, but after this horrible experience we will NEVER go back, and would not recommend it to anyone.

Campground: Bayley's Scarborough/Old Orchard Beach, ME
Campground Rating: 4
Comments: I've been to Bayley's off and on for 20 years. We always stay in the W section which offers cable/sewer/electric/water and is located to the rear of the campground in a pretty quiet area. Some sites towards the front of the campground are small and rocky, but if you're just looking for a place to hang your hat for a day or two, those will work just fine. Bayley's offers many private wooded sites for a nominal additional cost. The owners of Bayley's have made some improvements over the years and continue to keep up with maintenance. There are sufficient bathrooms with close access to nearly all campsites. Free VERY CLEAN shower/toilet stalls.
There's a free beach bus that leaves from Bailey's at regular intervals to Old Orchard Beach. (Note on the bus-take it, to park at Old Orchard Bch costs $$!!) The camp store is located by the entrance to the campground and is well stocked. They open early enough so you can pick up the daily paper and a cup of coffee and return to your campsite and relax as your day starts. Right across the street from the camp store is the restaurant/bakery which has something for nearly every palette. They open early in the morning and are open until well into the evening which is very convenient. Bayley's has daily activities on site & entertainment to keep busy. In addition, they also offer jacuzzis and 3 pools. For the kids, an arcade that has video games as well as skee ball in which you can earn tickets and redeem them for prizes.
There is a laundromat on site. Washers and dryers were numerous and in good working condition. For those of you who still want access to the internet, Bayley's provides a wireless connection for a fee. For those that don't have laptops, there is a computer station inside the laundromat where you can access the internet for a small fee. Cards can be purchased inside the camp store or you can use a credit card.
Overall, I enjoy coming to Bayley's. The staff is always courteous and friendly. Many people come back year after year. Yes, they are a little pricier than other campgrounds in the area, but it's worth it. To justify the higher cost of Bayley's, look at it this way; there are so many things to do within a 5 mile radius that you'll save gas (and money!) and not have to spend most of your day in the car!

Comments: CAMPERS BEWARE. Sites are small, activities are limited, pool is small, internet access was poor, and most importantly the camper is resopnsible for demonstrating that you paid a deposit before you can get a refund for your gate key. We paided for 2 keys, provided the two receipts we received. In turn we were told that the computer showed no record of a second deposit so we could not get our money back even though we had both keys and both receipts provided. So campers beware you are accountable for the clerk entering your paid deposit and getting a receipt that demonstrates it. We thought we did that but were told that our receipt was just a copy not a receipt for the second deposit we paid.

Comments: After hearing about how wonderful this campground was in the past, I was more than disappointed in my trip during the weekend of August 5-7, 2005. My wife and I took our two kids, 2 years and 6 months, for a weekend of fun with family and friends. It was great to see the friends, but as soon as I left our site, I was very baffled at why I had heard great things about this place.
The sites were run down, and it seemed that every seasonal camper was a part of the staff. We received a set of rules when we first checked in, and the staff neglected to tell us that they didn't apply to anyone but us. There were kids and staff members riding dirtbikes around without helmets, going faster than the posted 5 mph speed limit. In addition, they were cutting through sites to jump their bikes. Cutting through sites, even on foot, is not permitted and it is so stated in the rules we were given.
Then there was the firewood ordeal I had. I took my family up the street to a local farm for lunch and on the way back, I wanted to buy firewood. When I was at the front desk at noon looking to buy some, I was told that they didn't have any left and that one of the staff members would have to go and cut some. That struck me as kind of odd since they are a campground and they advertised firewood in the office. Anyway, I PAID ($12 for the 3 bundles I asked for) and proceeded back to my site. After about 3 1/2 hours, I still had not seen any firewood. I walked up to the office to see what the hold up was. I was then informed that the gentleman was out cutting the wood at that moment. A little annoyed, I went back to the site. Approximately 1 hour later, my wife went up and asked about the firewood we had yet to see and she was told that there was none at all. At this point I was more than annoyed, but I continued to give them the benefit of the doubt.
The time had reached 5:30 at night, and I still had not seen firewood when the lady selling 50/50 raffle tickets came by to sell tickets. I didn't get any, but I did tell her that I was still lacking firewood and had already paid for it. That must have the right person to say something too because 5 minutes after she left, the KID with the firewood arrived in a van and right behind him in a golf cart was an adult, who never identified himself, I am assuming he is one of the many members of the useless staff.
Anyway the kid just started throwing the wood out of the back of the van, and when I asked him if he was going to stack it by the fire or leave it right in the front of the sight in a pile, he just said that he was going to leave it there. That is when this adult decided to tell me how busy the KID was and to leave him alone. I told him that the kid should learn a lesson from this and he could take the message I was giving him back to the owner. So, I got the firewood 5 1/2 hours later.
The finale to my weekend was when I finally realized that the noise rule only applied to us because on Saturday night Aug. 6 2005, some seasonal campers behind our site decided it would be a great idea to use a blender to make drinks outside at 11:30 at night. The rules stated that starting at 11:00 at night it was supposed to be quiet hours. I have no problem with anyone drinking because I was enjoying beers myself, however when sitting around a campfire I didn't realize that you had to yell at the person sitting across from you. Maybe the blazing inferno in their firepit was too loud for them to talk like normal people. They woke up my two kids and a toddler in the sight in front of us, twice. We asked them to just take it down a little and some lady said to shut the f##k up.
Needless to say, we will not be back to this place as long as these owners are here, and I would suggest that no one else waste their money at this place either.

Comments: This past weekend, I was a guest of family at Windy Acres.
I was greatly disappointed to see how the campground is poorly maintained. For years I was a seasonal camper at Windy Acres campground, later when I had children, I brought them there as well. Although the campground had been around for many years, it was still maintained, clean and a friendly place to bring a family.
After my vistit this weekend, it was sad to see how the grounds and restroom facilities have become so run down and lacked cleanliness and maintenance.
I won't allow my memories of my childhood at this campground to be tarnished by my recent experience, however, I have no plans to return to this campground.

Comments: My family camped at Windy Acres Campground this past weekend. My impression was mixed - there were a lot of activities for the kids that were enjoyable, including kickball, fire truck rides, a bike safety course, and a nice swimming pool. However, aside from this, the bathrooms were dirty, and aside from the owner himself, some of the other staff were rude to campers. Several seasonal campers seemed to think that they were "above the rules" and no-one did anything about it. Also, the sites were dirty upon arrival, with trash and debris left from the previous campers. Hopefully they can improve this campground - we camped there seasonally when I was a child with the previous owners, and things were much better then.

Comments: My family has been visiting this campground for over 30 years. We haven't been back since new owners took over 4 years ago. We decided to go this past weekend. It was awful.
The place is in shambles. The staff is rude, inconsiderate and trashy looking. There is a list of rules that the campers must follow, including speed limits while driving on the grounds. However, the staff members don't appear to have to follow these rules as they rip through the campground, going the wrong way on one way roads and flying on their dirt bikes and golf carts.
I will NEVER return to this campground. My family will NEVER return. It was huge disappointment and a waste of our money. We are very dissatisfied. If you are looking for a great family camping trip or even just a quick getaway--stay away from Windy Acres. Save your money and go elsewhere!

Comments: For $39.00 a night we expected a lot more from Rusniks family campground, gee where do I start, For starters the bathrooms were really disgusting, we had to pay .25 to get a shower, most times it was .50 if I didn't hurry. Flies and bugs in the sinks, You have to pay to putt putt golf which was very poor. THE RULES totally sucked. Quiet time was 10:00 and let me tell you that means no talking at all. We had this jerk come by right at 10:00 to tell us to keep it down and we weren't talking loud at all. We stayed for 4 nights and boy I couldn't wait to leave. It was hot as you know what and we went to the pool along with 20 other campers and they made us leave right at 8:00. My daughter and her friend couldn't swim so my friend and I bought floatie bathing suits with the floats built in, they made them take them off. My friends uncle came to visit us and we weren't there and he wanted to leave a message and the people made him pay 6 dollars to do so even though our campsite was right next to the office. This place totally sucks. It was like a morgue at 10:00 and you couldn't even relax by the fire without the little guy coming around at 10:00 telling us to be quiet. Don't go to this campground!!

Comments: This campground is a very unfriendly place. We went to visit family there and were not allowed to even drive in! There is a gate that requires a code and we were refused entry! We are a typical family with 3 kids and a dog - not exactly the type of people they would want to keep out. We were told the campgound was just too busy but we could park out front and walk in. We walked in only to find out they were not there (of course the site was at the very back end of the campground)! As we walked out, our family members were driving in. Exhausted from our hot and very humid July 20 minute walk where we saw only 2 campers actually moving anywhere, we pleaded to be allowed to drive back in since we were only planning to stay for 15-20 minutes anyhow and the campground was not busy, but the woman working in the office steadfastly refused to let us drive in and got quite nasty about it when we said that the situation was ridiculous. I don't know what kind of power trip she was on, but this was the most unfriendly KOA I have ever been too and I will not return.

I have to say that I should be faulted because I visited this website before booking campsites at Weirs Beach Tent and Trailer Park and saw the entry below by jenyon412, back in June 2003 and proceeded with booking Weirs Beach Tent & Trailer, thinking the altercation described in the entry was not a regular occurence. However, our interactions with the woman running this campsite, only reinforced jenyon412's entry in 2003, confirming this lady needs her head checked and would possibly benefit from a few anger management courses.
We had called to book three campsites during the 4th of July weekend for three nights. We were quoted a price, sent in a deposit of nearly half that figure, only to arrive at the campgrounds to find the woman was charging us an extra $300. We only ended up staying two nights and never got the remainder of our money back for that third night, although it had already been established we would be refunded if people left early. A much longer story ensues, but if anyone decides to stay at Weirs Beach Tent & Trailer campgrounds,(which I will never do again) please make sure the rates are clearly stated as soon as the reservations are made over the phone. Otherwise, the woman at the front desk will take full advantage of your simple mistake. To further this point, I have another example. For instance, it is visibly outlined on the campgrounds rules and regulations that there is a $5 refundable deposit for the bathroom key. We had three keys and made sure to return them before we left. When we asked for the $15 refund back, she shouted that she had not taken key deposits all weekend and refused to give our money back, then stomped off to her trailer. One of our friends then approached her trailer and asked if we could have our money back since we had paid her $450 for two nights and three campsites AND had returned our keys. She screamed at our friend and told him "not to give her that look, she was not giving us the money."
Needless to say, the situation with the campgrounds put a damper on our weekend. That woman is sitting on a goldmine and never misses an opportunity to take advantage of anyone she deems an easy target. I think she unfairly profiled us, since the ages of our group ranged from 21 - 26. When we arrived at the campsite, she had firmly warned us numerous times that Weirs Beach Tent and Trailer Park does not promote parties and has strict regulations for quiet times. Regardless, the group in the campsite next to us (older than us, with a young child in-tow) were the ones that kept US up all weekend.
Word of advice - if you want a nice, hassle-free weekend (and cost-efficient, which camping should be, for the most part!) don't stay at Weirs Beach Tent & Trailer Park.

Comments: This place was a joke. How they are able to obtain liability insurance is anyone's guess. The bathrooms were horrible (extremely dirty, bugs, etc.), the playground was falling apart (literally) and the pool, while clean was very dangerous. The lining around the pool was crumbling. The upkeep of the pool (bugs) was a lot to be desired. The dump station backed up on me while I was emptying the black water and there was no drain around the area for the spilled water to go into. The only good thing is that we spent very little time at the campground. My advice- stay somewhere else.

Comments: We write this article to remind campers to be very careful with utilizing private campgrounds. We camped with Pardons Paradise on Lake Claiborne, Homer, LA Memorial Day weekend. When we started to plug into the 50 amp we noted the receptical was upside down. Glen Pardon stated that was how they were "doing them now". We plugged in, sat up camp then had to leave and came back later. When we went inside our 5th wheel there was a strong odor of burning, like hot wires. Everything in the camper was off. We checked all the switches and breakers and nothing was blown but we had no power whatsoever. We unplugged from the 50 amp and used the 30 amp adaptor and plugged into the 30 amp receptacle. We had our power back with A/C, lights and refrigerators but the TV's, microwave, washer, dryer and plugs on one side of camper did not work. We informed Mr Pardon and he said "the light company and an electrician had wired" the receptacle. The 50 amp receptacle was burned out with no power coming to it. Mr Pardon said his electrician would check it the next day. (He refused to give the electricians name.) We notified Clay's RV where we had recently purchased our new 2005 ALFA, explained the situation and he ran us through different tests and felt sure as he could without further diagnosis the plug was wired wrong. Strangely enough the next morning the receptacle was no longer upside down but correctly positioned. We brought this to Mr Pardons attention and he did not know how "that had happened." When we brought our Alfa to Clay's RV they determined the receptacle was wired incorrectly blowing our inverter, 2 TV's and microwave and possibly our dryer. Mr Pardon would accept no responsibility or acknowledge any of this. State Farm, our insurance carrier investigated immediately and paid for all our repairs less our deductible. Our carrier said Mr Pardon denied everything and it would be our word against his. He showed no remorse and refused to accept any responsibility for our loss at all.(We had spent the week before at Lake Caliborne State Park with no problems at all. As soon as we moved from the State Park to Mr Pardons we no longer had the full use of our Alfa. Needless to say Mr Pardon's Paradise was NOT paradise for us that weekend! Just be careful of your private campgrounds. We realize this was an isolated (and costly) incident as we have never had problems with campgounds like this before and hope to never again.

Campground E-Mail: TA-GA-SOKE@msn.com
Campground Rating: 1
Comments: I had a bad experience at the TA-GA-SOKE campground. I was travelling through New York on the Thruway, and neded a place to stay for the night. I called TA-GA-SOKE and made a reservation - the woman I spke with on the phone (Kathy) was very friendly. I told her I would be arriving late, and she said that the night manager (Dick) would meet me at the front gate and let me in. The park is gated all the time.
Well, I got there 19 minutes after the time Kathy had written down (I had told her I might be later than that), and no Dick. I waited at the gate for half an hour, and he never showed up. The office/store was completely dark, and Kathy had told me there was no use calling the number there after 9. I was screwed - there was absolutely nothing I could do to get someone to let me in, despite the fact that I'd made a reservation.
I wouldn't have been quite so annoyed if I hadn't given Kathy my credit card number to seal the reservation, and my cell phone number (at her suggestion) so that Dick could call me. He didn't, nor did he leave me a note.
After waiting a while I set out in search of the site number Kathy had reserved for me, carrying my tent and mattress. When I finally found it, there was someone on the site! And he had been there a long time, judging by the blocks under the trailer. So I set up at a nearby site, next to a pond with some of the most viscious mosquitoes I ever hope to meet. It was not the most fun camping experience of my life.
In the morning I realized that most of the sites in the campground were occupied by "permanent" residents (trailers up on blocks). So I'm sure that a solitary tenter like myself just wasn't worth bothering about. That's fine; no one's obliged to want anyone's business. But it's not OK to promise to deal with late arrivals, and then not do it.
And no one apologized to me, despite my asking an employee (politely) to pass along to the manager that I had not enjoyed my stay.
So... If you're looking for a place to live permanently, this might be a fine one. Though the bathrooms were none too clean, and there were only two showers, which require quarters to make them go. But if you're just staying the night, and especially if you're arriving late, look for a different campground.

Comments: The brochure and website were beautiful, but the campground itself was run down and dilapidated! Broken, run down pool, broken swings and broken playground equipment, tall grass everywhere, no pond to fish in like advertised, Mini-golf was outdated bumpy indoor/outdoor carpeting, Gameroom was dirty and digusting, half the games didn't work. The owner was rude and mean when we complained about the price compared to what we were actually getting and she said we could stay or LEAVE!!!!! How rude was that. When I made the reservation NO ONE told me that the pool was broken and gross! It was my daughter's birthday and we had just traveled 4 hours to get there only to be totally upset and disappointed. There was really nothing for my kids to do. The campground was AAA approved according to our brochure! I think they need to check into this! DON'T GO TO THIS CAMPGROUND!

Comments: This place does have numberous campers and water is available. But, the trailers are only 10' apart lined up in straight line (longways) along the river and tents are just 1 and 1/2' apart. Where one site ends, another begins. Everything runs together. The people are are top of one another and everything looks like a slum area. Office trailer is very dirty inside. Health department should shut this place completely down. Very dirty everywhere. No organization at all. Trailers and tents are mixed anywhere. Road conditions are very poor. The cost is cheap, but I know why. Sloppy caretaking.

Comments: Staff is very unfriendly. Would rather give you your money back and ask you to leave than accomodate. RV sites are small, unkempt, and among permanent sites that are very run down. Advertised boat rentals, putt-putt, etc. and had none of what was advertised. You got a site and a pool. No visitor passes. My senior citizen parents came to eat dinner and was charged $11.50 just to come to my site. No rules. Lots of (public) alcohol consumption, foul language, etc. If you like the sterotypical "trailer park" atmosphere then this is the place for you. However, if you enjoy family camping outings with nice facilities and staff, stay away!

Comments: Although we checked the Woodalls directory before calling and when we did call we were assured we would love their facility, we were truly unimpressed with the overall experience. Lazy River Resort was had nice sites, but it ends there. The bathrooms were sooo bad that we would not even allow are children to use them. The quite hours were not enforced, we had a very sleepless weekend. Campers were allowed to party until 4:30am with no problems. The golf course was a dandelion field. The pool was a disgusting. It was probably one of the worst camping experience we've had.

Comments: New owners for 2005, they raised the rent from $800 to $1250 (for a seasonal site), can't get to the bathroom most of the time, unless the bar is open. Porta poty often full. They cleared 20 new seasonal sites and put in electric, but camper is responsible for leveling the site, hauling gravel, planting grass etc, with no deduction from rent. Will not camp there again unless they get a new owner.

Campground: Boyd's Key West Campground Key West, FL
Campground Rating: 1
Comments: Camp ground was nice for the most part, very large and had plenty of accomodations. However, if you are party oriented in any way whatsoever, I do not suggest you stay at Boyds, regardless of age. Travelled down as a senior college student for spring break 2005. The "rules" which are not completely outlined on the website include quiet hours that actually begin at 10, not 11 pm. And by quiet I do not mean "turn your radios down to a respectful volume and enjoy playing a card game with your friends". Instead, NO music is allowed and anything above a whisper will earn you a "warning" (three of which will get you kicked out).
Futhermore, a conversation with management confirmed that they don't understand how to do business: if noise is bothering people from an unidentified campsite and the security guards can't figure out who it is (which would involve watching and listening instead of yelling at anything that moves), management is more than happy to kick out anyone in the area, as in, the campsites neighboring the one making noise as well. Apparently they obviously have your money by that point, SERVICE is of no concern, and they'll just make more the next day admitting and kicking out someone else. Fires are not allowed at all after 10, and it entertained us somewhat to watch a particular security guard put one out with a bucket of water ON TOP of the food a neighboring site was cooking for dinner.
Campsites are tiny, but offer enough room for a tent, picnic table and your car. (Not mentioning RV sites as we did not stay in one) Heavy rains flooded the street at one point, with water washing up to our tent as cars drove by (which was placed back as far as it could go from the street). Bath houses were cleaned very well but were typically out of toilet paper and had other problems by evening. Store was nice, as was pool. Shuttle was elusive though advertised, we ended up using taxis instead. Price to value? Not worth it in the least. While I understand and expect the typical spring breaker stereotype is that of a wild drunk loud obnoxious college student, I didn't really see any of those in the campground, but WAS treated as one. However, I DID see two different campsites get kicked out for being POLITE to the security guard, including myself. Half of the security obviously had a serious chip on his shoulder in regards to young adults, as when I apologized for making too much noise PACKING MY CAR he told me to "shut my mouth". After 10 pm, congregating in any area with more than 2 people whispering will earn you a warning.
Computer hookups were VERY much appreciated and even though we did not have electricity at our site, we were able to find outlets for needs such as charging cell phones or blowing up air mattresses.
Don't waste your money, go have a good time somewhere else. Nickname that was heard for management while staying at the campground: "The tent nazis"

Campground: Saco River Camping Area No. Conway, NH
Campground Rating: 5
Comments: We have been coming here for years through two different owners. One camper rated this facility a "1" and reading her comments I can say that she's way off base. Playground equipment may be old but it's "made like they used to make it" rugged grade stuff - not the cheap plastic playground crap sold today. There IS sand over the concrete footings and it occasionally gets scuffed off with daily use but it is raked and checked for sharp debris daily (seen it being done). The owner is very aware of everything that goes on in his campground 24/7 and is very on-top of people that may pose a problem - not aggressive and intimidating as the other unhappy camper stated. His goal is preventive warnings - Speak to campers, educate them not just about rules but etiquette too and avoid having to calm down an angry camper that is not having a good time there. It is family run by a young couple and extremely clean. All sites are cleaned as they are vacated, not all at once. Bathrooms as rated by this other unhappy camper are indeed old, but they are in good shape, painted regularly and are cleaned thoroughly once a day at 10:00 am and as needed after that. She's way off base on that rating. Always activities going on, "hayrides" are popular and as long as there are riders waiting, all will get a ride and not shut you off. It is located on the Saco River, tucked a short distance from the highway but quiet and you'd have no clue about the highway buzz if you didn't come in that way. Train whistle mid-day is all you'll hear. Shopping plaza across from main entrance is very convenient (supermarket, WalMart, etc.) and the whole town is a meca of shopping outlets and activities year round. We camp there for a month in the summer and are treated very well. I believe they have done away with seasonals except the workers because some "campers" have turned into "chateau's" and for economical reasons (hey, it's not a hobby for the owner) therefore they went to a monthly rate which is very reasonable. Got a special (reasonable) request? They'll help or bring you (not direct you) to the person that can help you. I've witnessed the owner going above and beyond by assisting with things like hitch emergencies, emergency notifications, assist moving campers when flood was imminent a few years ago, pick-up & deliver propane to elderly person's site and the list goes on. So to the other unhappy camper that rated this place a "1", you are very wrong so go elsewhere where you will be happy, please.
Highly recommended family campground!!!!

Comments: The campground is in Bristol, near Elkhart, Indiana. They have a good rating, but our experience was less than satisfactory. Our campsite was unkempt--bits of trash, old campfire remnants, and shredded pieces of paper everywhere. I think the grass mower just chopped up all the trash and blew it around. The site needed to be raked clean.
I don't mind paying good prices for quality campgrounds, but I hate to pay a premium price for a site that looks so trashy. But that is not the worst of it.
I complained to the owner. He was actually put out with me for complaining! He seemed to think the trashy condition of our campsite was just fine. He actually came over, looked at it, and asked me what my problem was. Well, folks, I did not get up on the wrong side of the bed that morning. I had a legitimate complaint: the site was so trashy I was dismayed. (We came in late, and did not see the condition until morning, or I'd never have accepted the site.
We shant return to this campground, more because of the owner's attitude but also because of the unsatisfactory site.

Campground: Bumble Bee RV Park and Campground Accident, MD 21520
Campground E-Mail: camp@bumblebeervparkandcampground
Campground Rating: 5
Comments: I am writing regarding a rating sent in by a person who stayed at the Bumble Bee RV Park and Campground at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. First of all Bumble Bee Campground is a brand new campground. The campground has been open for it's first season. Everything is new and extremely clean. We pride ourselves on our clean, user friendly bath house.
Our sites are not level. We are in Garrett County. We are a mountain campground. We provide leveling devises on each site. The owner has gone out of his way for no charge to fix, set, and help level campers plus get cars started in the middle of the night. We have chosen not to "level" the sites any further because we have 300 year old Oak Trees on the campground. To "level" the sites would kill our beautiful trees.
As for the collie, everyone in town knows Lassie. She is very friendly to campers, dogs, and cats alike. She does not roam free. The fight that this person is referring to is an instance where Lassie was being walked on a leash by the owner. A certain camper had been warned previously to keep his dog on a leash for his dog had already attacked another camper's dog. This is the dog that attacked Lassie (who was on a leash at the time) and the owner.
Taxes. This 15% trailor court tax is a Garrett County tax, not a state tax. We don't like the tax either, but we have to pay it. You may verify this with the Garrett County Courthouse, attention Patty Glover.
And sorry, we didn't get our washer in yet.
If you go to our website, you will see that we are in the middle of a resort area with the largest freshwater lake in the state of Maryland 2 miles down the road. You will also find an extensive list of "things to do" in Garrett County.
Contact the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce and the Garrett County Visitor's Center for more information. Or better yet, drive up and see for yourself.

Comments: This rating is only on the campground run by the park. It has no hook-ups but everything else is very good well done. The prices can not be beat. The rangers and staff are well trained, courteous and genuinely want to help. The campground made our Grand Canyon trip very enjoyable. The other campground with hookups is run by a contractor. It is all paved, prices are surprieingly high.

Comments: My family stumbled across this little camp ground in Cleveland Illinois. It had primitive camping with a two acre lake very clear water with nice sized catfish and largmouth bass, and some bluegill. It was a nice little ground for us to stay over night.
the Camp ground is in it building stages but is very nice little place.
I strongly recomend it. Price was great $10.00 per night

Comments: This is a nice camp ground with nice pools and facilities. They have pretty good activities during the day and at night on the weekends.
I did have one issue, that is with the staff. There wasn't a single staff member that was pleasant. Everyone seemed to be rude or have a chip on their shoulder. When entering the campground, you are immediately approached and your car looked in to count heads. They actually questioned the age of my son.
Other than that, it's a nice campground.

Comments: We are fulltime RV'ers. The campground has some open sites as you come in and if you as they tell you these are satellite friendly. There is also an open area in the back. The rest of the camp is in heavy woods. We were there after the season and the pools were closed. This is also manly a members campground and is priced very good if you belong to one of the clubs.

Comments: We spent the weekend of 9/27/04 at this campground. We had our 2 year old daughter with us. Many other young couples were also at this cmping area. I was a little concerned about the condition of the playground. The playground consisted of a very old and dangerous (they do not put them in any newer play areas)merry go round. The type that is spun around very fast so children can be thrown off or hit by it. The slide was also quite dangerous. It was a very tall metal type which is o.k. for 10 year olds but not younger children. Just within this weekend several children fell from the stairs which are about 12'-14' high. They fell right onto the concrete footings that hold the slide to the ground. These concrete footings were exposed and did not have any mulch or sand to cover them. On every occasion the childs parent was nearby.I know children can and will be hurt on occasion but this campground has done nothing to help prevent some injuries. The bathroom facilities were not very niceeither. The toilets were old and smelled badly. There was no soap to wash your hands, and the showers were old. In addition to the dangerous playground and old bathroom facilities. The people who own the campgroud are the very strick about many things. On one morning two people were cleaning the bathrooms when a young puppy barked a few times. This is normal, dogs do bark. One of the employees came outside and yelled that someone has to keep that dog quiet. It was around 11:00 A.M. The first night we were told to put the campfire out at 11:30P.M. we did with a little teasing. The second night the owner came by and was the rudest campground host I have ever met. He was very agressive and intimidating. They should put more attention into the playgroud and less into the campfires and occasional dog. I will never go to this place again.

Campground: Gilroy Garlic Farms Gilroy, CA
Campground Rating: 2
Comments: We stayed at the Gilroy Garlic Park for 481 days. Most of the time it has been a very nice place to be. But in the last few months it has been going down hill. It came to a head this week. Just to let you know we are in the park from late Sunday night/early Monday morning till Friday afternoon when we leave to go to our house in Nevada. We have been doing this the whole time.
On Friday August 27 we took our RV out of the park so we could renew it’s license in Nevada. On the site we stayed on we left 6 planters, a carpet, a broom, a pooper scooper, a picnic table (belonging to the park) and my truck. When we came back at 2am on Tuesday September 7th we only found my truck. We went to sleep and got up in the morning at 6:30am and I took my shower. When the office opened at 7am I went to complain. They said they would check it out. I went back to the site and my wife and I started to check around. On the site next to ours we found the planters and two sites over the picnic table. I took them back and went to the office to tell them. I told them how upset we were and that either we were leaving or the people that took the stuff was. They said they would check it out. Later in the day they called me and said that they people were new to living in a RV and they didn’t know better. Now I know when I was new to living in a RV that it was wrong to take stuff that didn’t belong to you. They then said we should have taken all our stuff with us. I told him for almost a year and a half we never had anything happen and we figured it was safe and since they knew who did it he should do something about it. We decided to move out of that park since they wanted to blame us for leaving our stuff and not the people that took it. They did tell me I could call the cops but I told him I didn’t think they would come out over that type of stuff plus I didn’t want to waste to cops time.
While it is a nice park I would like to warn everyone about it. Please be careful. I was told by the office they have had other stud disappear and also the manager was attached while trying to chase a guy out of the dumpster.
If anyone has question or complain feel free to e-mail me at vfxer@yahoo.com

Comments: Camping Labor Day weekend. The campground was nice and clean with good size lots. Plenty for the kids to do. But the problem we have is the park was very loud. Also the noise level and the late hour (after midnight) made getting rest difficult. I don't think I will hurry back to this KOA.

Campground Rating: 1
Comments: We visited Labor Day weekend 2004. What a dump! The bathrooms are old and dirty. And there is only one (for the entire campground) mens and ladys room with 4 showers for over 90 sites. We never saw them cleaned the entire weekend. However, there were two port-a-Johns, apparantly managements recognition and solution of the inadaquate bathroom facilities. The sites are not level and small. There are many seasonals, one with lots of lights and a sign "Duck Puddle Disco". This says it all. There was incredible niose and drinking by these people every night until 1 or 2am, with no evidence that management enforced the quiet time rules. The sites are dirty and do not appear to be cleaned by management after each use. The enterance dirt road is through an overgrown field with old trailers that includes two dumpsters overflowing with garbage bags. This is easily the worst campground we have ever visted in our more than 10 years of camping. AVOID.

Comments: Country Oaks Campground Family Oriented??
NOT!
Here is our story,
Just a few facts about our family. We have 3 daughters ages 17, 16 & 11, during the summer months we have our 11yr old during the week mainly and 1 weekend a month. We have been going to Country Oaks for years even before the new owners have taken over.
Now for our story, We wanted a seasonal site but had to have a camper which was no more than 12yrs old, it was our pleasure to go buy one knowing the fun we were going to have there, we bought it the week before Memorial Day 2004 and brought it to the camp ground it took over a month to get it in a permanent location which was also ok again we were just excited to be part of the campground we thought nothing but good of, well that slowly changed. Let us give you the biggest reason why we decided to pull out and go somewhere else, on Labor Day weekend my daughter brought her dirt bike, she walked it off the campground property and rode It in the woods which didn’t belong to them and on her return walked it back to the camp site, at that time I had a knock on my door from my neighbor saying the owners wife wants me, she was sitting in her golf cart she wouldn’t even get out and knock on my door herself, she then stated “take that bike off my property now!!!” at that point we put the bike on the back of the truck, mind you I asked and also my daughter asked if we could bring it, we both were told as long as its pushed off the campground and not started on campground property. So on our way to take the bike home we stopped to talk to the owners wife, we stopped and asked if we could speak with her as we walked out of the store she began to yell, she told Us “WE ARE UNFIT PARENTS!!” wow we were stunned, she claims that our children told her that we kicked them out of the campsite and lock them out. How untrue, first the oldest never leaves the campsite and our middle daughter has friends she is always with or at the playground, her next comment was someone else is always watching them at the pool. Wow another whammy… First the pool sign says you have to be 16 to swim alone, ok our 2 oldest are they don’t need us there and yes they can swim, 2nd our youngest which is hardly there on the weekends was watched once by our neighbors on the 4th of July because we had company 3rd we have watch other children ourselves when the parents couldn’t. For her to make any such claims of someone being unfit and yelling it in a public place was not only unfair but embarrassing and humiliating and will not be tolerated, its totally unfair! Now for the next part she claims out kids are always at the store that is true but they are always spending money in her store!!!! Labor day weekend alone we gave them over $100.00 to spend, which was all spent at the campground! So I was shocked hear her comments she claims she felt bad for our daughter to they tried to have her participate in campground activities. Oopps whammy my daughter was involved on her own in those activities, not because they wanted her too because she wanted too!!!
Some more Whammy’s
1st the pool sign says 16 to swim alone which is fine but because parents were watching other peoples children the owners wife then changed the rule to you can only watch 2 children at a time?? What if you have 3 children, at parents we don’t mind watching others children as long as the kids are having fun, why is this such an issue let me tell you why SHE IS TOO CHEAP TO GET A LIFE GUARD!
2nd its not only are children she complains about, it’s any kids who is near or in her store! We have heard from numerous parents that are complaining about this issue.
Regardless to say we will not be returning to HER campground next season we will find another one which is FAMILY ORIENTED and where the owners like kids.
Thanks for your time all the said is true feel free to contact us, like I said this wasn’t the only issue we have had just the final straw! Our kids are the world to us! For the rest of the season we will not be bringing our children back!
Once again thanks,
Szymborski Family

Comments: I had a reservation at Lake Lure RV Park/Campground in Lake Lure, NC. I got very sick so called to change my reservation to another day, I wasn't asking for my money back, but the owner was very nasty with me and told me I should have thought of that before I made the reservation and I told him, I didn't know I was gonna get sick and he replied by saying this is not Burger King you don't get what you want. This was very disappointing not only was I sick but someone could be that way to another person.
I hope no one else has the same experience I had.
